Privacy Policy

This policy explains what data the BzzBzz app and its service (together “BzzBzz”) collect, why, and what your rights are.

Who is responsible for your data

Data we collect and why

Your account — email address, name, avatar and encryption public key, plus your time zone, language and the date your email was confirmed. Used to provide the service: signing in, showing you to the people you message, sending you service emails (email confirmation, password reset, invitations to a room). Your email address and name are stored encrypted.

Your messages — messages are end-to-end encrypted on your device: we store them but cannot read their text or images. They are automatically deleted from our servers one month after being sent.

Your devices — for each signed-in device: app name, operating system version and app version. For BzzBzz printers: their serial number and firmware version, linked to your account. Used to keep you signed in, to deliver messages to your printers and to provide updates. Sign-in sessions are deleted after six months.

Subscriptions — if you subscribe, payment is handled entirely by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). We never see your payment details. We only store the store’s subscription identifier, the plan and its expiry date, to unlock the features you paid for.

Crash reports — when the app or our server encounters an error, a technical report is sent to Sentry (Functional Software, Inc.). It contains your user identifier, your device model and system version, and technical details about the error, but not your IP address nor your messages. Reports are kept for 30 days.

Usage statistics — the app sends anonymous usage signals (such as app launches, app version and system version) to TelemetryDeck GmbH. They contain no personal data and cannot be linked to you.

We do not use your data for advertising, we do not track you across other apps or websites, we do not collect your location, and we do not sell your data.

  • Providing the service you signed up for (account, messages, devices, subscriptions): performance of a contract.
  • Crash reports, anonymous statistics and backups, to keep the app working, improve it and protect your data against loss: our legitimate interest.

Who processes your data

  • Infomaniak (Geneva, Switzerland) hosts our servers and database.
  • Backblaze (Netherlands) stores encrypted backups of our database.
  • Lettermint (Netherlands) sends our service emails.
  • Sentry (United States) receives crash reports. Transfers to the United States rely on the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework and standard contractual clauses.
  • TelemetryDeck (Germany) receives anonymous usage statistics.
  • Apple and Google process payments for subscriptions, under their own privacy policies.

How long we keep data

  • Account data: until you delete your account.
  • Messages: one month after being sent, or when you delete your account.
  • Sign-in sessions: six months.
  • Crash reports: 30 days.
  • Backups: up to 180 days (see below).

Backups

Our database is backed up to Backblaze (Netherlands). Email addresses, names and messages remain encrypted in these backups, and the keys needed to decrypt email addresses and names are not stored with them. Backups are kept for up to 180 days, after which deleted data disappears from them too.

Your rights

You can access, correct or delete your data, object to its processing, or ask for a copy of it:

  • Your name, avatar and email address can be changed in the app.
  • You can delete your account at any time from the app (Settings → Edit profile → Delete my account). This deletes your account, your messages and your subscription records. Your BzzBzz printers are unlinked from your account.
  • For any other request, write to contact@syan.me.

You can also file a complaint with the French data protection authority, the CNIL (cnil.fr).

Deleting your account does not cancel a store subscription: cancel it in your App Store or Google Play settings.

Children

BzzBzz is not intended for children under 15. If you are under 15, do not create an account.

Changes

We may update this policy, for example when the app changes. The date at the top shows the last update. Significant changes will be announced in the app or by email.
